Missing Nixon
(to the tune "I Wish I were in Love Again")
The wire tap, the tape-loop gap,
The co-conspirator who beat the rap,
A guy as pleasant as a dose of clap,
I can't believe I’m missing Nixon.
The shifty look, the 'not a crook,'
The list of enemies that filled a book,
The even longer list of all it took
To make me say I'm missing Nixon.
A flaming cloud, a marching crowd,
A soldier's casket in a flag-draped shroud,
A bloody president who's still unbowed;
This deja-vu's not cause for missing Nixon.
I value how he talked with Chou
And never sprayed a crumb or back-rubbed Mao,
Where is that statesman when we need him now?
I can't believe I'm missing Nixon.
His peace bids tried, he stepped aside,
His mean V.P'd already lost his hide;
Thus ended what had seemed our horror ride,
I guess that's why I'm missing Nixon.
