Editor's NoteFor the subtlest folly proceeds from the subtlest wisdom. Congratulate us! Folly has officially made it as an established magazine by Web standards: three whole issues without tanking. As seasoned veterans with over six months' experience, we now know what every editor has to learn the hard way: You can't get anything but poetry for free. Though we've begged and pleaded, we've received only one artwork submission, and very few essays. By contrast, everyone seems to have more poems than they know what to do with. They're like home-grown zucchini; you can't give them away fast enough. That said, zucchini is a versatile vegetable. We're grateful to the international assortment of wits and wags who've contributed to this issue—with special thanks to Scott Emmons for agreeing to be our first Featured Poet. For the first time, we also have a Letters page, just like a real magazine! We've gotten some good ones: some tongue-in-cheek, some not. We'll leave it to you to figure out which is which. The December issue will include a special section called The Workplace. We considered going with a holiday theme, but got bored just thinking about it. Maybe we'll do that next year when we're desperate for ideas. Best regards, |
